Design influences for award winning interior design
Mary Wilson finds inspiration for her interior design solutions in a variety of places, including travel that has taken her to every corner of the world. Tapping into her global influences and a deep respect for history, Mary is able to create timeless, award winning interior design that infuses cultural influences with architectural details.
Known throughout the design industry as an expert in the use of color, Mary’s design solutions cleverly incorporate sophisticated shades of color to draw interest and communicate a mood.
Much of Mary’s color and interior design inspiration comes from the natural landscape surrounding each space. For example, when consulting with a Colorado family on their residence, she drew inspiration from the changing seasons and the color tones in the trees and grasses outside the kitchen’s panoramic windows. In 2009, Mary’s award winning home design was featured in Colorado Homes & Lifestyles and Architectural Trends.
A rich design background in art and education
Prior to founding Nielsen-Wilson Design, Mary Wilson fine-turned her interior design skills working with prestigious firms in San Francisco and Dallas. Mary received her formal education in art, interior design and architecture from several West Coast universities, and postgraduate study in design and architecture at Harvard University.
At heart, Mary is an artist as much as an interior design consultant. She draws much of her inspiration from fine art, and her rich art background makes her a versatile interior designer and effective problem solver.
Mary spent several years as the curator at the Triton Museum in San Francisco, developing award winning art education programs. Before that, she pursued her passion for art on a Fulbright Scholarship at the University of California – Davis. There she had the great privilege of studying under world renowned painter, Wayne Thiebaud, Rox DeForest, Robert Arneson and Manuel Neri, to name a few.
